Is Your Transformation the New Status Quo?
May 30, 2025
🔦Just because it looks better doesn’t mean it’s working
Too often, I see this pattern repeat across change programs and transformation portfolios:
A new way of working is announced.
New processes are stacked in.
Governance structures get fancier.
And suddenly, everyone breathes a sigh of relief.
"Look how far we’ve come!"
But here’s the truth most don’t want to say out loud:
This isn’t evolution.
It’s just a better-looking version of the same system.
🚧 You can’t evolve by stacking more on top of the same foundation.
Real evolution isn’t about adding layers of process, frameworks, and governance.
That’s just... heavier status quo.
In today’s world of fast-moving change, hyper-aware people, and increasing cultural complexity
small wins and surface-level tweaks are no longer enough.
You don’t evolve by polishing the old.
You evolve by shifting the lens, raising the questions, and designing for what’s next.
And here’s what gets missed:
You don’t know what you don’t know.
If you’re not actively exploring new mental models, challenging old defaults, and learning from others ahead of the curve, you’re not evolving.
You’re just spending more on a prettier version of stuck.
🔄 It’s not about installation. It’s about integration.
Many leaders think they’re moving forward when they’re really just installing something new
A new tool. A new structure. A new workflow.
But installation isn’t the same as progress.
If it’s not integrated into the ecosystem, into culture, and into the human dynamics, it won’t last.
In fact, installing too much, too fast, in disconnected ways can create more dysfunction than it solves.
⚠️ Behavior shifts in unintended directions.
⚠️ Capacity gets drained.
⚠️ People perform the process but don’t own the change.
Instead of installing, we need to design for the future
Design with intention.
Design with system awareness.
Design with a mindset that says: “How do we evolve the whole, not just change the parts?”
❗The way forward isn’t about doing more.
It’s about doing the right things, with depth, coherence, and integrity.
If you’re a change sponsor, a transformation lead, or someone responsible for building what’s next:
✨ Don’t fall for the illusion of progress.
✨ Don’t celebrate the new when it’s layered on top of the old.
✨ Don’t confuse motion with evolution.
You’re playing a bigger game than that.
If this resonates, reply and let’s talk. Or explore how we help leaders like you create transformation that lands, lasts, and leads to real change.

🎤I am speaking at Agile Australia June 2025
If you want to learn more about navigating The Two Speeds of Transformation between what is strategic and where you can bring iterative momentum
This topic is at the intersection of transformation leadership, Agile principles, and the reality of running large-scale programs. Many organisations struggle to balance Agile's fast-paced, iterative nature with the deliberate, strategic depth required for successful transformations.
This session clarifies what can and cannot be "Agilable" in transformation programs and introduces the concept of running at two speeds: one focused on flexibility and responsiveness, the other on alignment and stability.
